Grace Downtown partners with organizations throughout DC that are working to make God’s love and provision felt in practical ways in our city. Partner ministry Capitol Hill Pregnancy Center recently shared this story:
Every so often we meet a client who reminds us that our presence in the DC metro area does make a difference. Lina, our director of client and volunteer services, recently had one of those meetings when she met with a lovely, soft-spoken 17-year-old who was eight months pregnant. The girl’s mother was with her.
As Lina was gathering gently used supplies and a new layette for the girl, she asked her client how she knew of the Center. The expectant mother turned, looked at her own mother and said, “My mother came here when she was pregnant with me 17 years ago!”
The grandmother-to-be shared that when she came to the Center years ago, she walked in thinking that there was no way she could keep her baby. She was living in a group home, had no income and was utterly alone. But as she and her counselor talked and prayed, she says that she suddenly no longer felt alone in her crisis pregnancy and chose life.
Now, here they both were, mother and daughter, sitting before Lina, filling her in on the past 17 years. Now she is a social worker helping at-risk youth and is truly grateful that she kept her baby. What a difference coming to the Center made in this woman’s life!
Your time, gifts and prayer made this available to her and now to her daughter. Thank you, over and over again.
